  24.             UUNET is a non-profit organization whose charter is to  pro-
  25.             vide  electronic  mail  connectivity  among  its subscribing
  26.             sites. UUNET provides  fast,  reliable,  mail  service  both
  27.             domestically and internationally. UUNET charges connect fees
  28.             on a cost recovery basis.

  30.             UUNET acts as an internet mail relay for its 1,000 subscrib-
  31.             ing  sites.   UUNET provides a proxy ftp service and archive
  32.             service which allows non-internet sites to obtain files that
  33.             are available by anonymous ftp. Currently, UUNET may only be
  34.             accessed via TCP/IP or the UNIX UUCP protocols.

  36.             UUNET IS NOT A GENERAL UUCP/INTERNET GATEWAY (despite common
  37.             delusions).

  39.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _a_c_c_e_s_s

  41.             UUNET is on the Internet and UUCP networks.

  43.             _W_h_o _C_a_n _U_s_e _t_h_e _N_e_t_w_o_r_k

  45.             Access  is  restricted  to  UUNET  subscribers   and   their
  46.             correspondants.   While  third party access is not currently
  47.             blocked, it is discouraged and software to prevent  it  will
  48.             be installed in the future.
